Hello Simon and Monica,
I came across you blog after doing a Google search for Castelnuovo Belbo. Imagine my surprise when I read about your visit to Castelnuovo Belbo, (not exactly a tourist destination) since I was born there and where I spent the first twelve years of my life, before emigrating to the United States with my family. Imagine my further surprise reading about, and seeing pictures of your aunt Tersilla, who is actually a distant cousin of mine. Her maiden name was Reggio, and her father was my grandfather’s brother. Your description of the town, the people and it’s history was excellent. It brought back many memories. One in particular was as a small child going to see Olimpio, the blacksmith, work in his foundry and being mesmerized by the sparks and the fire as he hammered away making iron shoes for the oxen, which at that time were the “tractors” for the farmers of Castelnuovo. Thank you for sharing. Your trip sounds like a wonderful experience and I would like to wish you a “Buon Viaggio”. You are building memories that will last a lifetime.
Good luck!
you might probably not remember me, i met you on a train ride in India, from when you were going from Kerala to somewhere near Goa.We shared a berth on a train with a French lady (i think) and i vaguely remember having a long conversation late into the night with Simon
I came across the paper i’d written this URL on, and thought oh, lets have a look see, and say hello.
I’ve moved to England since then, for a masters course. This is insane, you’ve actually managed to travel so much..i wish i can do it soon, maybe start with Europe or something.
